Artist Statement
My work focuses on questioning self awareness while delving into the human experience. Investigating the “breakthrough” phenomenon, my curiosity comes to play at moments that cause our human psyche to experience and enact change. I use our human connection to nature and interconnectivity to describe this feeling. Amongst the several natural landscapes I incorporate, the desert sand dunes are prominent in the work. They represent duality with their uninhabitable brutal climate while still being expansive spaces of beauty. Their drought-adaptable wildlife shows signs of resilience and transformation.
The relationship between self and environment impacts how we interact and the reality we get to tune into. Shadow work, recognizing trauma and existential questioning are ways to analyze our internal self. Portals, voids, intersecting landscapes, and first person perspective are all visual translations that play with perception of the environment in the work. Integrating both parts through spatial awareness and even questioning “the invisible”, allows us to begin tapping into the parts within, revealing those grand AHA moments. Paying attention to the signs from the universe alongside introspection allow us to pave this path into new perceptions, having a higher understanding of the journey.
